Travis Announce New Single, Album and UK Tour
Having scored a No. 1 on the indie singles chart with their limited edition J Smith EP, Travis are pleased to announce the release of a new single Something Anything on September 15th, followed by a 12 date UK tour in the lead up to the release of their new album Ode To J. Smith on September 29th.
Something Anything sees Travis mine a seam of tough beat led grooves and guitar licks, landing someplace between the breakthrough stomp of Good Feeling and garage band of All I Wanna Do Is Rock. For the video, the band team up once more with Michael Baldwin – who directed all the videos for The Boy With No Name – and take Andy’s driving guitar riff as the centre piece for a video that sees a 10ft tall Andy tearing into a solo that leaves the rest of the band suitably awestruck.
The single will be released on the band’s very own Red Telephone Box label and will be available on 7”, CD and as a download. Additional tracks include a cover of The Kinks classic Lola and two new songs all unavailable elsewhere. Track listings are as follows:
Something Anything CD / Digital download:
01: Something Anything

THE NEW ALBUM
Ode To J Smith is Travis’s loudest, edgiest and most arresting record since their debut. Written in 5 weeks and recorded in just 14 days, it’s the sound of a band re-born, re-inspired and re-energised.
“we wanted this record to have some rough edges. In the past we might have been guilty of making really beautiful things that were so smooth you almost slipped off them. You can’t say that about this one. We really pushed ourselves. It’s like prog-pop; lots happening in about three minutes” – Dougie.
Ode to J. Smith will be released on Sept 29th with full details to be announced shortly.

Travis new release, the J. Smith EP is out now in limited edition 10″ vinyl
and digital download formats.
“a gritty but ambitious track that take the rock operas of The Who as a starting point, with a slight detour to include the choir from Bowie’s Velvet Goldmine….bodes well for new LP Ode To J Smith.” – The News of the World.
“Echoing the Eighties rock sound of the Police, the title track from Travis’ album Ode to J Smith is taken to epic levels by masterful guitar and a Latin choir” – The Observer

“Hello there.
I was sitting in our hotel today and thought
“Why don’t we put up the new song”.
It’s out Monday.
It’d be nice for y’all to hear it.
So… please welcome… J Smith.“

Travis Returns With ‘Ode’, New Label Deal
By Lars Brandle, London
Scottish melodic rock quartet Travis is lining up a late September release for their sixth studio album, which will arrive through the resuscitated Red Telephone Box label.
The new album, “Ode To J Smith,” will land on September 29, thanks to a new label and distribution agreement struck with Integral, a division of [PIAS] UK.
A limited edition 10″ vinyl recording of three new tracks will arrive this Monday (June 30). Those songs will also appear for sale on most legitimate download services. Fans who pre-order the EP on the band’s official Web site will receive a signed copy and the digital bundle for £3.99 ($7.80). A commercial single release will street on Sept. 18.
The new deal with Integral and the revival of Red Telephone Box marks the conclusion of the band’s fruitful collaboration with Independiente, through which Travis’s five albums sold more than 10 million albums worldwide, according to the group’s management.
Red Telephone Box was originally launched in 1996 to release Travis’ debut 10″ EP, “All I Want To Do Is Rock”. The following year, they signed with Independiente. Their most recent album, “The Boy With No Name,” opened at No. 4 in the United Kingdom following its release in May 2007, selling 36,000 copies in its first week, according to the Official U.K. Charts Company.
“This arrangement,” comments the band’s manager Ian McAndrew, of Wildlife Entertainment, “allows Travis to retain full creative control of their music and affords us the full support of the Integral team to assist in the running of the label.” Talks are ongoing to license the album abroad.
Integral specialises in providing services to record labels, artists and artist managers who want to independently release music both physically and digitally.
The firm will provide support and infrastructure to Red Telephone Box and will work closely with the band and their management to take full advantage of revenue-spinning opportunities.

Travis are back with a new release on their own label, the J. Smith EP. Available in limited edition 10″ vinyl and digital download formats.

The three track EP will be released on Red Telephone Box, the label on which Travis released their debut EP, All I Want To Do Is Rock, in 1996. Fran, who turned designer for their debut, has once again provided the artwork. The EP will available for download and on limited edition 10” vinyl, while stocks last.
Produced by Emery Dobyns (Antony & The Johnsons, Patti Smith, Battles), the three songs were recorded in London’s Rak Studios and mixed in New York at Electric Lady Studios. The EP kicks off with J Smith, the title track from the forthcoming album Ode To J Smith, described by Fran as a 3 minute rock opera, and enlists the talents of The Crouch End Festival Chorus to add some epic scale to Travis’s rockiest outing since their debut EP All I Want To Do Is Rock. Also included are Get Up and Sarah, the latter being unavailable elsewhere.
All fans who buy from the link below will be able to purchase the 10″ for £3.49 or an exclusive bundle of the 3 track digital download and a signed copy of the 10″ vinyl for only £3.99. This pre-order is available now at:
http://travis.trinitystreetdirect.com
The album Ode to J Smith is now complete and scheduled for release in the autumn. Details will be announced shortly.
Travis are touring throughout the Summer playing a mix of festivals and their own headline shows, for full details please visit our Live Dates section at the site.
